I joined Whitchurch Round Table in 1982, at that time Eric was Vice-Chairman and the following year 1983, Chairman. Always a gentleman Eric was not one of those to drink a little too much or indulge in the lunacy that often seemed to be part of Table meetings. We lost contact for a number of years when the family moved away from Whitchurch but was delighted when a few years ago they moved back to the area and Eric Joined our Ex-Tablers Club, 41 Club. I had the opportunity to sit with him at some meetings and was delighted how we could pick up the Round Tabling days as if there had been no gap. As a resident of Grindley Brook I often saw Eric whilst he was performing his volunteer lock-keeper roll at the staircase lock. He will be missed and a toast drunk to him at the first meeting 41 Club meeting when we can all meet face-to-face again.
